New Year's events around town

Many spent last New Year's Eve crammed between random and disjointed elbows in a bar that ran out of fries, nachos, and decent beer. Others are not yet 21 and can't even begin to fathom the intense talent it takes to reach one's drink through a sea of misplaced limbs. But in a city like Seattle, bars aren't the only option for a New Year's celebration.

New Year's at the Needle
Seattle's most traditional and biggest event for New Year's. Join the more than 20,000 people who gather below the Space Needle to watch fireworks that go off at Midnight. If you have a large chunk of pocket change, you can also join the party inside as guests are treated to a six-course dinner and champagne. The dinner is $225 per a person, though a cheaper Observation Deck party will only cost you $95 per a person. More information is at http://www.spaceneedle.com
St. James Cathedral New Year's Eve Gala
Billed as "Seattle's oldest classical New Year's tradition", their chamber choir, orchestra and organists will be performing Purcell's "Te Deum" and Handel's "Dixit Dominus". $22 suggested donation, students and seniors "pay as able". Spanning five rooms with over three floors of dancing, this is Seattle's biggest 21 and over bash. This year's entertainment will be provided by The Dudley Manlove Quartet, Soul Provider, Club KISS DJs (106.1 FM), Howard Bulson, Ruby Dee & Snakehandlers, the Wake Fields and the Swains.
